Short answer: Yes, but depth and platform size matter. Beatbot built the AquaSense 2 Ultra specifically to detect and clean raised platforms and multi-level areas that many robotic cleaners miss.

The Important Number Is Water Depth

Beatbot’s recent guidance says the AquaSense 2 Ultra can autonomously clean elevated platforms when the water there is deeper than about 13.7 inches. For really shallow ledges, its behavior changes and MultiZone Mode may be needed.

Beatbot also says step or platform areas need to be physically large enough for the robot to support itself and maneuver safely.

Why This Robot Can Handle Multi-Level Pools

The Ultra uses downward-facing ultrasonic sensors plus its HybridSense mapping system to detect platform edges and remember multiple platform levels. Beatbot says it can store up to four different levels in the map.

What About Very Shallow Sun Shelves?

This is where “it cleans steps” can become misleading. A shallow tanning ledge may be below the autonomous-cleaning depth. Beatbot’s own guidance says shallower areas may require MultiZone behavior rather than the normal autonomous platform routine.

What to Measure Before Buying

  • Water depth over the ledge or step.
  • Usable platform width and length.
  • How many separate height levels the pool has.
  • Whether you expect fully automatic cleaning or are willing to use a special mode for shallow areas.
