Short answer: The XP13000HXT does not produce the same wattage on all three fuels. Gasoline gives the highest published output, propane is in the middle, and natural gas gives the lowest.

FuelRunning wattsPeak wattsPublished runtime
Gasoline10,50013,00017 hr at 25%; 8.5 hr at 50%
Propane9,50012,00013 hr at 25%; 6.5 hr at 50%
Natural gas8,50011,000Depends on the connected gas supply

The Biggest Mistake Is Sizing on Gasoline and Planning to Run Natural Gas

If you build a load plan around 10,500 running watts and then expect to use natural gas during the outage, you have effectively lost 2,000 running watts of capacity. That can be the difference between comfortable headroom and a system that is operating near its limit.

Why Someone Might Still Prefer Natural Gas

Natural gas can avoid gasoline storage and can provide a continuous fuel source when the utility gas supply remains available. The tradeoff is lower electrical output and the need for a gas system capable of supplying the required pressure and BTU demand.

Propane Sits in the Middle

Propane gives up 1,000 running watts compared with gasoline on this model. Many people still like it for storage and fuel flexibility. DuroMax recommends at least a 40-pound propane tank for the XP13000HXT.
