AlorAir Sentinel HD55S Wi-Fi Data Dossier: Specs, Limits, Calculations and FAQs
Data Dossier: The AlorAir Sentinel HD55S Wi-Fi is a compact gravity-drain dehumidifier rated at 55 pints per day under AHAM conditions, 130 CFM, and up to 1,300 square feet. The interesting part is not the headline rating. It is what the electrical, drainage, ducting, dimensional, efficiency, and control data mean when you actually have to install one.

Plain-English Snapshot
- 55 PPD AHAM capacity: Think of this as the standardized comparison number, not a promise that every crawlspace will lose exactly 55 pints of water per day.
- 130 CFM airflow: The unit can move a meaningful amount of air, but one airflow number does not guarantee even circulation through divided sections or around major obstructions.
- 4.1 A at 115 V: The published current draw is modest, but the manual still calls for a grounded 15-amp GFCI circuit. The 4.1-amp figure alone does not prove that sharing the circuit with another large load is appropriate.
- Gravity drainage: Water needs a continuously downhill route. If the drain destination is higher than the unit, gravity alone cannot get it there.
- 33.8°F minimum operating temperature: A 35°F crawlspace is technically inside the published range, but it is very close to the lower boundary.
- 19.2 × 12.2 × 13.3-inch cabinet: The box is compact, but physical fit is only part of the installation. Airflow, connections, service access, and maneuvering room still matter.
In short: the headline specifications tell you what the HD55S is rated to do. The rest of this dossier focuses on what those numbers mean when they interact with a real installation.
Core Specifications
| Specification | Published value | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Capacity | 55 PPD AHAM; 120 PPD saturation | The 55-pint figure is the more useful standardized comparison point. Saturation testing is much hotter and wetter. |

Derived Data: What the Published Numbers Let Us Calculate
| Derived value | Result | Assumption |
|---|---|---|
| Cabinet footprint | 234.2 sq. in. / 1.63 sq. ft. | 19.2 × 12.2 in base |
| Cabinet volume | About 1.80 cu. ft. | Simple rectangular envelope, not internal usable volume |
| AHAM water removal per hour | About 2.29 pints/hr | 55 PPD ÷ 24 |
| AHAM water removal per day | About 6.88 gallons/day | 8 pints per gallon |
| Saturation removal | 15 gallons/day | 120 PPD ÷ 8 |
| Minimum drain slope | 0.1 in/ft, about 0.83% | Manual requires 1 in drop per 10 ft run |
| Apparent electrical load at nameplate current | About 472 VA | 115 V × 4.1 A; VA is not automatically the same as watts |
| Efficiency-implied average input at AHAM rating | About 452 W | 55 pints/day converted to liters, divided by 2.4 L/kWh, then over 24 hr |
| Idealized air velocity in a 6-in round duct | About 662 ft/min | Assumes all 130 CFM passes through a 6-in circular duct |
Specifications That Do Not Agree
This is exactly the sort of product where a data-first page is useful. AlorAir’s current product page lists the HD55S Wi-Fi at 41.7 lb, R32 refrigerant, and under 50 dBA. An older manufacturer Wi-Fi specification sheet lists 44 lb, R410A, and under 52 dBA.
The cabinet dimensions, current draw, COP, 55-PPD AHAM capacity, 130-CFM airflow, and operating-temperature range agree across those sources. The refrigerant difference is not something to “average.” It can indicate a product revision. If refrigerant type matters for service or replacement parts, use the data plate on the exact unit you are buying or servicing.
Electrical Requirements
The installation manual specifies 115 V, 60 Hz, single phase, a 3-prong GFCI outlet, and a 15-amp circuit protector. It explicitly says not to use an extension cord or plug adapter.
The 4.1-amp published current does not mean a shared 15-amp circuit is automatically suitable for other large loads. Circuit loading depends on everything connected to that circuit, starting characteristics, wiring, and code requirements.
Gravity Drain Requirements
The manual says the drain must flow downhill without loops, dips, or valleys. It specifies a minimum slope of 1 inch per 10 feet.
- 5-foot run: at least about 0.5 inch total drop.
- 10-foot run: at least 1 inch total drop.
- 20-foot run: at least 2 inches total drop.
If that slope is not possible, AlorAir’s manual specifically points buyers toward the HDi65S with its integrated pump or an external condensate pump.
Ducting and Clearance
The manual specifies a 6-inch flex supply duct and states a maximum duct length of 6 feet. It also gives unusually generous free-air clearance instructions: the inlet requires a minimum of 6 feet and the discharge a minimum of 36 inches when the unit is not ducted.
Those clearance requirements matter if you are trying to squeeze the cabinet into a very tight crawlspace bay. The cabinet fitting physically is not the same thing as the installation meeting the manufacturer’s airflow instructions.
Humidity Controls and Continuous Mode
The manual allows a normal humidity setpoint from 35% to 90%. Moving the setting below 35% enters continuous mode, where the unit runs regardless of humidity until it is stopped or returned to normal humidistat operation. The manual also says the displayed humidity is approximate to about ±5%.
Buyer FAQ: Questions the Spec Sheet Usually Doesn’t Answer
How much floor space does the HD55S take up?
Its cabinet footprint is about 1.63 square feet. That is only the cabinet. You still need the manufacturer’s required airflow and service clearance.
How many gallons of water can it remove in a day?
At the 55-PPD AHAM rating, about 6.88 gallons per day. At the 120-PPD saturation rating, the arithmetic is 15 gallons per day. Those are rating-condition values, not promises for every basement or crawlspace.
How much drop does the drain need over 20 feet?
Using the manual’s 1-inch-per-10-foot minimum slope, a 20-foot run needs at least 2 inches of total downward drop.
Can the HD55S drain uphill?
Not by gravity. Use an external condensate pump or a model with an integrated pump such as the HDi65S.
Can I plug the HD55S into an extension cord?
The AlorAir installation manual explicitly says do not use an extension cord.
Does the HD55S need a dedicated 15-amp circuit?
The manual requires a grounded 15-amp GFCI circuit. Whether it must be dedicated in a specific installation depends on other loads and applicable electrical requirements.
How much electricity does it use if it ran at the AHAM rating continuously?
Using the published 55-PPD capacity and 2.4 L/kWh COP implies roughly 10.84 kWh per 24 hours, or about 452 watts average under the assumptions built into that rating. Real household use is usually different because conditions change and the humidistat cycles the compressor.
Will it fit through a 14-inch opening?
The smallest listed cabinet dimension is 12.2 inches and the next is 13.3 inches, so the bare cabinet dimensions suggest that some 14-inch openings may be physically possible in the right orientation. Do not treat that as a fit guarantee: handles, fittings, the opening shape, maneuvering space, and how the compressor is handled all matter. The manual says that if the compressor was not kept upright during handling, place the unit level and wait at least two hours before turning it on.
Can it operate at 35°F?
Yes, that is within the published 33.8–104°F operating range. The unit uses automatic defrosting for low-temperature operation.
Can it operate at 32°F?
32°F is below the published 33.8°F minimum. The manual says the unit will not run outside its operating temperature range.
What happens if I set the humidity below 35%?
The manual says the unit enters continuous mode.
Is the HD55S Wi-Fi refrigerant R32 or R410A?
AlorAir currently lists R32 on the product page. An older manufacturer specification sheet lists R410A. Check the exact unit’s data plate for service work rather than assuming all HD55S Wi-Fi revisions use the same refrigerant.
Can I control the HD55S from Home Assistant or my own script?
AlorAir supports its own app but has said it does not provide an official API. See our separate HD55S app/API explanation.
Is 130 CFM a lot through a 6-inch duct?
If the entire 130 CFM were moving through a perfect 6-inch round duct, the average velocity works out to roughly 662 feet per minute. Real installations add fittings, restrictions, leakage, and system resistance.
